Enter your current grade percentage, the weight of your final exam as a percentage of your total grade, and your target grade. The tool uses the weighted average formula to determine the minimum score you need on the final to achieve your goal.
What formula is used to calculate the required final grade?
The formula is: Required Final = (Target Grade - Current Grade x (1 - Final Weight)) / Final Weight. For example, if you have an 80% with a final worth 30% and you want a 90%, you need (90 - 80 x 0.7) / 0.3 = 113.3%, which is not achievable.
What if the required grade is over 100%?
If the calculated minimum score exceeds 100%, it means your target grade is not achievable with the final exam alone. You may need to adjust your target or explore extra credit opportunities.
