About Credit Card Validator

Validate credit card numbers using the Luhn algorithm. Detects card type.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Luhn algorithm?
The Luhn algorithm (also called Mod 10) is a checksum formula used to validate identification numbers such as credit card numbers. It detects accidental errors like single-digit typos and transpositions.
How does card type detection work?
Card types are identified by their number prefix (BIN range). Visa starts with 4, Mastercard with 51-55 or 2221-2720, Amex with 34 or 37, and Discover with 6011, 644-649, or 65.
Can I use this to verify a real credit card?
This tool validates the number format and checksum only. It does not verify whether the card is active, has funds, or exists with any bank. It is useful for catching typos in card numbers.
Is my data safe?
Yes! All processing happens entirely in your browser. Your card number is never sent to any server. No data is collected, stored, or transmitted. We strongly recommend never sharing real card numbers online.
What card types are supported?
The tool detects Visa, Mastercard, American Express (Amex), and Discover cards. The Luhn check works for any card number regardless of type.
